Hi all,
I am suugesting few more additions below.
Please Note: 1. There are few repetitions which I think is Ok as different fields (obviously)
overlap.
2.I have left out the following topics due to my complete lack of knowlwdge, so it would be
nice if someone could suggest books/articles on these
a. Simulations of condensed matter systems
b. Electronic structure Calculations
c. Turbulence and various topics in fluid mechanics like colloids, dispersions
d. complex systems, glasses, disorder (classical/quantum).
3. I haven’t listed review articles yet (except one). Will come to it sometime later.
Suggested additions:
A. Soft Matter and Hydrodynamics:
1. Principles of condensed matter physics by Chaikin and Lubensky
2. Scaling Concepts in Polymer Physics by Pierre-giles De Gennes
3. The Theory of Polymer Dynamics by M. Doi and S. F. Edwards
4. Hydrodynamic Fluctuations, Broken Symmetry, and Correlation Functions
by Dieter Forster
5. Molecular Hydrodynamics by Jean Pierre Boon and Sidney Yip.
B. Solid state physics:
1. Solid State Physics
by Giuseppe Grosso, Giuseppe Pastori Parravicini
C. Phase transitions and critical phenomena:
1. As a good review article we may add Kogut-Wilson’s orignal
article–
K. G. Wilson and J. Kogut,Physics Reports 12C, 76 (1974).
2. Field Theory; The Renormalization Group and Critical Phenomena
by Daniel J. Amit, Victor Martin-mayor (disclaimer: I haven’t seen this new third addition.
Used 1984 edition which I certainly liked. This one doesn’t look very different and I hope
is atleast as good as the previous ones)
3. Statistical Physics: Statics, Dynamics and Renormalization by Leo P. Kadanoff
4. Quantum Field Theory and Critical Phenomena by Jean Zinn-Justin
D. Magnetism and Magnetic Materials
1. Lecture Notes on Electron Correlation and Magnetism by Patrik Fazekas
E. Supeconductivity
1. Superconductivity of Metals and Alloys by Pierre-Gilles de Gennes
F. Many-Body Physics/Field theory
1. Condensed Matter Field Theory by Alexander Altland and Ben Simons (comment: seems to me
a truly wonderful book with extensive collection of ‘real life’ applications. Could also be seen as general intro. to a lot of topics. Do take a look.)
2. Quantum Field Theory in a Nutshell by A. Zee
3. Many-Body Quantum Theory in Condensed Matter Physics: An Introduction by Henrik Bruus, Karsten Flensberg
